DIY Fix My Car is an information tool. It is NOT a substitute for a qualified mechanic. Working on a vehicle involves real physical risk. You are responsible for your own safety and for the outcome of any repair you attempt.
1. What DIY Fix My Car is
A mobile app and companion website that helps do-it-yourself mechanics and hobbyists diagnose vehicle problems, look up repair information, track service history, and read on-board diagnostic (OBD-II) data from their own vehicles. Designed for people working on vehicles they own or vehicles they are working on with the owner's permission.
2. Acceptance
By installing the app or using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
3. Age and authority
You must be at least 18 years old, or have a parent or guardian agree on your behalf. You must have the legal right to work on any vehicle you use the app with.
4. Not a substitute for professional advice
DIY Fix My Car provides information, tools, and third-party content to help you understand and work on vehicles. We are not a licensed automotive repair facility. The information in the app is not a substitute for a qualified mechanic, and following it is your responsibility.
Repair procedures involve real physical risks: moving parts, high-voltage systems (especially on hybrid and electric vehicles), pressurized fuel and refrigerant, sharp components, and heavy assemblies. If you are not confident in a repair, hire a professional.
You are solely responsible for:
- Assessing whether a repair is within your skill level
- Following manufacturer safety procedures
- Using proper personal protective equipment
- Any damage to your vehicle, property, or person that results from your use of the app
5. OBD-II hardware disclaimer
The app connects to third-party OBD-II adapters over Bluetooth. We do not manufacture, sell, or endorse specific adapters (our own branded adapter is in development but not yet shipped as of this policy). Reading and clearing diagnostic codes is a standard OBD-II function supported by virtually all vehicles built after 1996, but incorrect use — particularly clearing codes before diagnosing the underlying issue — can hide problems and lead to real damage. Use responsibly.
6. Content from third parties
The app may display or link to content from third-party sources including but not limited to NHTSA (recall and complaint data), the vehicle manufacturer, community repair sites, YouTube, and Amazon. We do not control that content and are not responsible for its accuracy. Where we link, we index — we do not host copyrighted material without permission.
7. User-submitted content
When you save notes, service history, mechanic names, or forum posts, that content is yours. You grant us a limited license to store and display it back to you (and, if you post to a public forum in the future, to display it to other users). You may delete your content at any time. We may remove content that is illegal, abusive, spam, or violates these terms.
8. AI-generated support answers
The in-app support chat is powered by an AI model (OpenAI's gpt-4o-mini). AI-generated answers can be wrong. We build in safeguards — the model refuses off-topic questions, warns on safety-critical items, and offers escalation to a human — but you should not rely on any AI answer as authoritative for safety-critical repairs. When in doubt, tap "Send this to a human" or consult a qualified mechanic.
9. Affiliate links
Some parts links in the app go to Amazon and other retailers under affiliate programs. We may earn a small commission on qualifying purchases. This does not change the price you pay. We disclose this clearly per FTC affiliate-marketing rules.
10. Fees and refunds
The app is currently free. When we add paid features (planned: $1/month cloud sync, and a branded BLE OBD adapter for one-time purchase around $35), this section will describe pricing, billing, and refund policy. No paid features are active as of this date.
11. Account termination
You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these terms or use the app to harm others.
12. Warranty disclaimer
The service is provided "as is." We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the greater of $50 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, personal injury, or property damage.
Note: several US states limit the enforceability of these clauses. If you live in one of those states, some of the above may not apply to you.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim brought by a third party arising out of your use of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any third party's rights.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaii, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in the State of Hawaii, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
16. Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be surfaced in-app. Continued use after the change means you accept the updated terms.
